Although this year’s Pinot Blancs were disappointingly roughed up by botrytis, the Jamek 2005 Gelber Muskateller Kollmitz was distinctively successful. It combines creaminess of texture with brightness and pungency appropriate to this grape variety, and features generous apricot, lemon curd, sage, and resin throughout and a satisfyingly juicy, clear finish, which is not always easily obtained with this grape. Also recommended: 2005 Gruner Veltliner Steinfeder Marienfeld (not available; 86), 2005 Gruner Veltliner Federspiel Stein am Rain (not available; 84), 2004 Gruner Veltliner Smaragd Achleiten (not available; 86).Importer: Terry Theise Estate Selections, imported by Michael Skurnik Wines, Inc., Syosset, NY; tel.
