Kimich's 1993s are well-made wines, but they merit slightly lower scores than previous vintages. They are all off-dry, elegant, less concentrated wines than I have seen from Kimich in other top vintages. The Deidesheimer Herrgottsacker Riesling Spatlese was muted, hard, lean, and angular, without the sweet mid-palate and richness generally found in Kimich's wines. For whatever reason, Kimich's two Spatlese offerings were not as impressive his other offerings. The 1992 Deidesheimer Herrgottsacker Spatlese is tough, backward, and dry. Although rich, it lacks expressiveness. One of my favorite German producers, Kimich fashions personality-filled, lavishly fruity, sometimes exotic wines with intense bouquets and flavors.
