The serious, barrique-aged 1999 Merlot Faial reveals a saturated opaque purple color along with deep, chewy, medium to full-bodied flavors, surprising intensity on the mid-palate, and amazing length. From an area not known for high quality wines, owner/winemaker Luciano Piona has fashioned this impressive offering. Impressive is the opaque purple-colored 1997 Merlot Faial. It offers abundant quantities of smoky new oak, melted chocolate, and cherry/blackberry jam.
