The fabulous 1997 Giselle (100% Merlot aged in new French oak, and bottled unfiltered) boasts an opaque purple color as well as a dense, jammy, enormous nose of blackberry liqueur, vanilla, and licorice. Its low acidity and almost over the top, hugely extracted, full-bodied style result in a behemoth impression in the mouth. Nevertheless, everything is in alignment, and the wine is exceptionally well-balanced for its size and highly-extracted style. This terrific Merlot should age effortlessly for 15+ years. Wow!
