The 2007 Monje Amestoy Luberri Reserva is starting to develop its bouquet and shows aromas of dried flowers, some leather, candied orange peel and aromatic herbs. The light- to medium-bodied palate reveals high acidity and some fine tannins, ending a little bit dry. Drink 2014-2016. This family winery was created in 1991 by Florentino Martinez Monje in Rioja Alvesa and they now own 35 hectares of vineyards and work a further 15 to produce a grand total of 350,000 bottles per year. From 40-50-year old vines, the 2001 Monje Amestoy spent 16 months in a combination of French and American oak. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by classic Rioja aromas of dried herbs, black cherries, cassis, and smoke.
