The perfumed and aromatic 2019 El Recio was produced with Tempranillo from older vines and matured in second and third use oak barrels for 14 months. It has a creamy and spicy nose with generous oak and a round and lush mouthfeel with abundant tannins. Better with powerful food. 300,000 bottles produced.

The 2016 El Recio has dominant aromas of licorice and ripe berries, plus a twist of aromatic herbs. The palate is soft and polished, with fine tannins and good balance. 80,000 bottles.

A thick, velvety texture carries ripe flavors of plum and blackberry in this solid red, while accents of licorice and dark chocolate add interest. Muscular tannins and sweet-tart acidity impart a slightly clumsy structure, but there's depth. The 2014 El Recio is quite similar to the other two wines tasted next to it, as they all have a soft, commercial profile with judicious oak and increasing levels of refinement and depth. This is an approachable Tinta de Toro matured in barrel for 14 months. I tasted a bottle from the first lot of 22,000 bottles, but they have enough wine to fill some 80,000 bottles in total.

Cropped from a challenging vintage, the 2013 El Recio has a fresh, fruit-driven commercial profile with fine tannins and a dry finish. It needs food. 100,000 bottles.
