Dark, luscious and rich, the Mauro Molino 2019 Barbera d'Asti LeRadici offers some dried fruit on the bouquet, along with crushed stone, powdery earth and dried cardamom or carob bean. The wine shows a dried nutty or hazelnut aroma that takes away from the fruit purity, especially a few minutes after the wine is poured into your glass. There is sweet blackberry or cherry confit on the close.

The 2018 Barbera d'Asti LeRadici is another surprise hit from Mauro Molino. This line of entry-level reds delivers quite a few delicious surprises. You have some good choices to pair with informal meat and pasta dishes. This Barbera, of which 25,000 bottles were produced, opens to a medium body and a bright, saturated color. There is a lot of bold cherry fruit with subtle hints of earth and dark spice. That tonic, crisp acidity that Barbera is known for shows nicely in this expression from Asti.
