The Monchiero Carbone 2018 Roero Riserva Printi shows dark fruit and plum, but the wine also puts forth a very bright and floral side with dried rose and lavender. The freshness is spot-on, and the wine's mid-weight texture feels silky and light. There is a lot of pleasure to be had.

An interesting expression of Nebbiolo, the Monchiero Carbone 2017 Roero Riserva Printi offers nice concentration and textural fiber with dried blackberry and plum, followed by toasted hazelnut, powdered cocoa bean, almond husk and tilled earth. This hot vintage brings on many of those dried fruit and nutty aromas for sure, with an open-knit and textured finish. This toasty and earthy red could be quite nice with a platter of roasted chicken and onions. About 8,000 bottles were produced.

The expression "Ogni Uss a l'ha so Tanbuss" is printed on the front labels of many of these wines from Monchiero Carbone. From the local Piedmont dialect, it translates loosely as "every door has its own knocker" and means, even more loosely, that every family has its own oddball characteristics. The 2016 Roero Riserva Printi is a beautiful and classic wine, and honestly, I see no sign of anything oddball here. This is a clear, well-articulated and direct expression that reveals focused fruit flavors and lots of inner energy. You get some tightness in terms of mouthfeel, but this vintage shows great overall balance. It's a quintessential Nebbiolo to be savored with a platter of Piedmont cheese, such as Castelmagno, or another aged cheese from the Alps.

The Monchiero Carbone 2011 Roero Riserva Printi shows layers of dark fruit and spice that are nicely aligned and contrasted against each other. The tannins are a bit dry, making the wine accessible and immediate. This Riserva is refined in barrique for two years followed by two years in bottle before its commercial release.

The 2010 Roero Riserva Printi is a balanced but powerful wine. It shows great momentum and staying power with lasting aromas of black fruit, spice, tar, licorice and tobacco. The overall effect is integrated, polished and persistent.
