The 2008 Barbaresco Palazzina is an attractive wine with good definition in its aromas and flavors. Dark fruit, spices, menthol and licorice emerge from this broad-shouldered, powerful wine. The tannins could use a touch more polish, but this is nevertheless an excellent effort. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.
I have mixed feelings about Montaribaldi. The wines often show quite a bit of potential, but at the same time aren’t as clean as they could be. Frankly, I can think of any number of growers around the world who would be thrilled to own vineyards in Barbaresco. The 2008 Palazzina is the only Barbaresco of the three I tasted I can recommend, and even then it is not without some hesitation.
