Plush and juicy with rich black and blue-toned fruits on the nose, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon 1973 Block Red Willow Vineyard opens with aromas of soft oaky spices and florals that subtly waft from the glass with an herbal tone and dark chocolate notes. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is creamy and dense on the palate, with a lush roundness that shows a soft, herbal note of red pepper, moving toward slightly tart red fruit and tones of chocolate-covered cranberries. The finish is long and contemplative, with focused, lingering tannins. Only 172 cases made.

Darker and earthier, with lots of black fruits, leafy herbs and damp earth characteristics, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon 1973 Block Red Willow Vineyard is nicely concentrated, supple and textured on the palate. It too has good freshness, excellent purity and is a high quality red that will have a decade or more of longevity.

Possessing more depth and richness than the DuBrul Cabernet, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon 1973 Block Red Willow Vineyard offers outstanding notes of cassis, spring flowers and sappy herbs, with a touch of vanilla showing on the medium-bodied, elegant, silky palate. Playing in the mid-weight style of the vintage, it has fine tannin and solid length, all suggesting it will keep for a decade.

Another elegant, seamless 2012 from this estate, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon 1973 Block Red Willow Vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 18 months in 40% new French oak. Silky, layered and medium to full-bodied, with a complex bouquet of crushed flowers, spice, toasted bread and both black and red currants, it’s already drinking nicely, yet should easily evolve for 10-15 years.
