This wine celebrates its 40th harvest with this release. The Pietroso 2018 Rosso di Montalcino is a pretty but measured wine with bright cherry, light smoke, graphite and pencil shaving. The fruit component is vivid and bright, with tart and sour berry flavors on the close. This wine hits exactly the right tone if you are looking for a pure and simple Sangiovese with ample Tuscan personality to pair with a homemade gnocchi ragù.

This Rosso opens to a deeply saturated color that is more maroon and crimson than it is red. The 2017 Rosso di Montalcino is a hot-vintage expression with ripe tones of summer cherry and black plum at its core. The one-dimensional aromas are rich, thick and sweet-smelling. You taste that 14.5% alcohol too. Some 17,000 bottles were made.
