The 2005 Piesporter Kreuzwingert Riesling Spatlese feinherb – from one of the smallest remaining official vineyard sites in all of Germany (whose 1971 owner was a powerful politician!) – smells of baked apple with piquant accents of walnut oil and grapefruit zest. In the mouth, this exhibits juicy refreshment, balanced sweetness subtly supporting its flavors of apple, black currant, grapefruit, and walnut oil, and it finishes with bright, spicy grapefruit citricity tinged with faintly bitter citrus zest and brown spices.
