Renieri's 2016 Rosso di Montalcino (with 40,000 bottles produced) is poised to bring out the value hunters. Indeed the wine offers lots of genuine Sangiovese and Tuscan typicity at a very attractive price point. That said, I tasted this wine early, and it was still rather shut down at the time I wrote this review. There are some Grenache-like aromas of tin can and camphor ash that I would not immediately associate with a Rosso di Montalcino. Tangy berry and bitter plum also make appearances. There is a point of bitterness that I dislike, and I've adjusted my score downward as a result.
