The 2007 Regina di Renieri is 100% Syrah that spent 24 months in French oak barrels. It is wonderfully sleek and beautiful, particularly in the silkiness of the tannins. The oak is a bit dominant and varietal character is pretty much absent, but the fruit is so striking one can only wonder what might develop with a more restrained hand in the winemaking. For now, the Regina remains a wine of promise. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2017.
