The 2011 Damalisco Crianza is produced with Tempranillo from 30- to 60-year-old vineyards. The description of how it’s made sounds quite interventionist (selected yeasts, micro-oxygenation) but the wine is quite straightforward and ripe, with notes of blood, prunes, lactic and spicy hints and plenty of oak-related aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with dusty, grainy tannins, quite oaky and ending with a warm sensation. 55,000 bottles produced. Drink now-2015. The 2007 Damalisco Crianza was sourced from Toro fruit. It was fermented with native yeasts and spent 10 months in new French and American oak. Deep purple-colored, it displays a nose of wood smoke, pencil lead, scorched earth, and blackberry. Dense, sweetly-fruited, and mouth-filling, it will continue to blossom with several more years of cellaring. Drink it from 2013 to 2022. It is an outstanding value in serious red wine. The 2006 Crianza is 100% Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) naturally fermented and aged for 10 months in French and American oak. The nose gives up aromas of cedar, leather, pencil lead, and blackberry. On the palate it remains tightly wound, dense, and structured but with plenty of savory fruit and good balance.
