The 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume is lovely, mingling aromas of citrus zest, nutmeg, fresh bread and struck match in an inviting mélange. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural and incisive, it's a bright, youthfully tightly-wound wine with a flinty finish that should age with grace.

The 2015 Chablis 1Er Cru Fourchaume is raised in 50% wood (two to five years old) and 50% in stainless steel. It has a really quite superb nose, albeit one that aims for the subtle reductive style à la Coche-Dury. But they get it just right. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, a pleasant fatness in the mouth. There is plenty of fruit here: white peach and a hint of grapefruit/nectarine, but the acidity is very well judged and the finish is so pretty and poised that you will not be able to resist its charms.

The 2012 Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume comes from limestone soils: 25-year-old vines cropped at 45 hectoliters per hectare, 45% of the crop raised in 5- to 6-year-old French oak and the remainder in stainless steel. It has a laconic nose with tightly wound granite and smoke scents that bide their time, but unfurl nicely with aeration. The palate is clean and fresh with citrus lemon and honeycomb, although it tapers away just a little prematurely, as if to say: That’s quite enough. Drink now-2017. Domaine Roland Lavantureux offered a mixed bag of delights in 2012, with one of two very impressive wines for the vintage rubbing shoulders with a couple that found the going tougher.
