Lots of bark, forest flowers, black cherries, blackberries and baking spices in the nose. Full-bodied with layers of gorgeous tannins that coat the mouth and give an enticing silky texture that is irresistible. Juicy finish. From organically grown grapes. So beautifully already, but even better in two or three years and beyond.

A certified organic wine, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Helichrysum opens to a blackish-garnet appearance and medium-rich concentration. The bouquet is immediately ripe and soft with dried or baked fruits and even a hint of marmalade. Those sun-drenched aromas fold into toasted spice, earth, wet clay and black olive. There is a hint of tonic astringency on the close, along with fresh acidity. Production is 6,700 bottles.

The San Polino 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Helichrysum (with 9,000 bottles made) shows slightly lighter fiber compared to the annata release, and this wine is also more floral, with pressed rose, dried lavender and bay leaf. This more compact style is well suited to this hot and dry vintage that naturally produced a lot of sugar (alcohol) and extract. Farming at San Polino is organic and biodynamic.

Made with certified organic fruit, the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Helichrysum opens to full-bodied richness and concentration. It reveals a dark and velvety side to Sangiovese, and it shows the latitude of the grape, thanks to its fresh acidity and tannic structure. This special selection (with 6,000 bottles made) will benefit from more years in the cellar, but among these new Brunello releases from 2016, this wine should also perform nicely in a near or medium-term drinking scenario, maybe at your favorite Italian restaurant with ravioli in wild boar sauce.

The San Polino 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Helichrysum shows loads of dark fruit and depth. If the estate's other Brunello from this vintage (both of them 8,000-bottle yields) is all about the red fruit, the Helichrysum embraces black fruit aromas of prune and plum instead, giving the wine a heavier center of gravity, more determination and momentum. This warm vintage would make a fantastic pairing to the classic Tuscan bistecca alla Fiorentina.
