Schmitges’ 2004 Erdener Pralat Riesling Spatlese displays site-typical aromas and flavor impressions of honeyed tangerine, talcum powder, herbal distillates, and orange creamsickle. Hints of white peach and lemon emerge to add refreshment, and wet stone and subtly smoky notes inform the wine’s sappy, resinous, tangerine-flavored, imposingly rich and creamy yet refreshingly bright finish in which a hundred grams of residual sugar are rendered scarcely noticeable. This should be another 20- to 25-year keeper.
