Made from the Wente clone first planted in 1980, the 2021 Chardonnay The Enchantress begins with notes of waxy citrus, yellow apples and hints of oak. Medium-bodied, the palate offers a mix of apple and peach tones with hints of brown baking spices, fresh sweet citrus flavors and soft buttery tones, ending with a clean, food-friendly finish and bright acidity.

Made from old-vine Wente clone, the 2018 Chardonnay The Enchantress gives up aromas of yellow apple and pear core with elements of salted almonds, Meyer lemon meringue and pineapple husk. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is lively with soft white citrus blossoms, white spice and hints of waxy, leafy greens. The wine lingers with a subtle flavor of spiced white tea on the finish along with a pomaceous and citrus-laced nutty characteristic.

The 2017 Chardonnay The Enchantress has a citrus core with the soft white florals and a clear line of minerality on the nose. The palate echos the nose with a citrus blossom essence to it, then takes a step in the opposite direction from the oak-driven, buttery baked expression, as this wine is is more acid-driven and with mineral tension. The finish is contemplative with a core of green apple crispness that lingers on the aftertaste along with some peering alcohol that seems to rear its head out a touch. Only 350 cases made.

The 2016 Chardonnay The Enchantress offers up pretty aromas of green apple, white flowers and pastry cream, followed by a supple, elegantly textural and open-knit palate with good freshness and cut. From vines planted in 1978, it sees partial malolactic fermentation. A little more depth and concentration would render it outstanding, but its competitive price already tells in its favor.

Made from 100% Chardonnay, the 2015 Chardonnay The Enchantress is fresh and steel, with vibrant notes of citrus blossom, sappy herbs and white flowers. Barrel fermented and aged 11 months in neutral French oak, drink this racy effort anytime over the coming 3-4 years.
