Consisting of 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Cabernet Franc, 21% Merlot and 7%, the 2019 The Spellbinder displays notions of red and green pepper, plums and black cherries with hints of herbs and dusty earth. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is clean and correct with blackberry flavors, bell pepper and a spotlight on fine-grained tannins that linger over the food-friendly finish. It’s a delightful wine that is well-priced and well-made.

A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2018 The Spellbinder offers up a delightful frame of fresh fruit, blackberry and dark plum, with hints of savory dried herbs, spice and potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is open and accessible with a proper chassis a fruit, balanced structure and lifting tannins. The wine ends with a persistent spiced plummy flavor, dark cherry skin and hints of red spice on the finish. This wine clearly overdelivers for the price. Although the label artwork may not look serious, the wine inside is sure to please, as it is made from declassified free-run juice.

The 2009 Spellbinder is a blend of 42% Cabernet Franc, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, 12% Merlot, and 11% Sangiovese. Fragrant cherries, herbs, and spices lead to a savory, ripe, pleasure-bent red perfect for quaffing with pizza and burgers. This balanced, lengthy effort can be enjoyed over the next 4-5 years. Sleight of Hand Cellars began in 2007 coming out of the chute with some superb values, wines which are easy to spot on retail shelves because of their bright, magician-themed labels.
