The 2001 Barbaresco Curra, normally a top selection of the house, is less successful in this vintage, intense and lengthy but a bit dry in flavor and with a slight toughness on the close. Some bottle time will help, but I can’t see this wine approaching the level of the others in the group. Drink: 2006-2015. The 2000 Barbaresco Curra is balanced and harmonious. A deep garnet, very fragrant in its balsamic notes of mint, rose petals, incense, and cloves, it is ample and rich in flavor, full and long and with a solid tannic backbone that promises substantial life ahead. An earthy concoction, with the addition of vegetable root, plum, and cherry characteristics is found in the 1998 Barbaresco Vigna Musue-Curra. The 1996 Barbaresco Curra Vigne Masue is expansive, full-bodied, and concentrated. The wine displays a dark ruby color, as well as an explosive nose of cherry liqueur, incense, dried herbs, smoke, cedar, and soy. The multidimensional, rich, full-bodied 1995 Barbaresco Curra-Masue is a fine wine. This example boasts outstanding aromatics (smoke, tobacco, fruitcake, cherry liqueur, rose petals, and a touch of asphalt). Lush, full-bodied, round, and ready to drink, this excellent, nearly outstanding wine possesses admirable richness, and a pure, textbook Barbaresco style.
