This is Tasca Conti d’Almerita’s top-shelf white that celebrates a 50th wedding anniversary, or “golden anniversary,” that is called “nozze d’oro” in Italian. The 2018 Sicilia Nozze d’Oro Tenuta Regaleali was created by Count Giuseppe Tasca to mark his half-century anniversary with his wife. This sustainably farmed blend of Inzolia and Sauvignon Blanc is elegant and beautiful, with citrus, lime, yellow rose and a tangy touch of green asparagus or tomato leaf that must come from the more aromatic Sauvignon Blanc. This is a lean-bodied wine with enough structure and power to pair with crab cakes or shellfish.

This edition is labeled under the Sicilia DOC (instead of the Sicilia Contea di Sclafani subzone). No matter, this remains one of the benchmark white wines from the heart of the Mediterranean. The unoaked 2017 Sicilia Nozze d’Oro Tenuta Regaleali is a beautiful wine with a straight and linear style that hits the palate with just the right intensity and in just the right parts of the mouth. Sicilian stone fruit (like the orange fruit nespole, or loquat) and quince are followed by ash and crushed stone. The wine shows intensity and focus. The blend is 76% Inzolia and 24% Sauvignon Blanc (a Tasca clone). Some 40,000 bottles were made.
