Described by the usually eloquent Theise as "a big ass wine", the sweet corn, mineral, currant, and apricot-scented 2001 Riesling Auslese Gleisweiler Holle is an intense, powerful offering. Medium-bodied and thick, this beautifully focused wine has such density and depth to its smoky slate, gravel, gun flint, sea salt, and mineral-flavored personality as to taste dry. Highly expressive and concentrated, it reveals no fruit flavors, just rich, velvety layers of elements generally found in mines. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2019.Importer: Terry Theise Estate Selections, imported by Michael Skurnik Wines, Inc., Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300
