The 2005 Tranche Red, a blend of 36 % Merlot, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Cabernet Franc, with the balance Malbec and Petit Verdot aged for 33 months in 50% new French oak. It gives up an inviting perfume of wood smoke, Asian spices, incense, lavender, black cherry, and blackberry. Forward on the palate, it has ample savory fruit, a plush personality, good concentration, and enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years. It can be enjoyed now but will provide pleasure over the next 6-8. Tranche Cellars is a label owned by Corliss.Tel. (509) 526-4400; www.corlissestates.com
