Here's my personal favorite wine from the fine folks at Tre Monti. The 2017 Romagna Albana in Anfora Vitalba Secco sees 90 days of extended maceration in clay amphorae from Georgia. It would be unwise to assume that many (most) white grapes could endure such an extreme winemaking process, but the hearty Albana grape with its compact clusters and waxy skins is one of the few varieties that succeeds at this operation. The wine opens to ripe apricot aromas with honey, pine nut and preserved lemon. There's a lot of nuttiness on the close. Only 3,500 bottles were made.
