The 2013 Pinot Noir Coast Range, from a mix of volcanic and sedimentary soil, was picked between 10 and 14 October and aged for 11 months in barrel. I much prefer the aromatics here compared to the 2013 Wichmann Dundee Estate, since it displays far more definition and mineralité, an almost gypsum-like tincture to the red berry fruit. The palate is fresh and lithe in the mouth, the oak neatly integrated, smooth in texture with commendable depth. There is something understated but pure about this Pinot Noir, and it gently fans out on the finish to pleasing effect.
