Stewed dark fruit, marmalade and sweet spices with some tarry undertones. Medium to full body. Chocolaty and raisiny with mellow tannins. Some herbal undertones, too. Drink now.

Made with 100% Sangiovese, the 2019 Chianti Classico manages an inky dark color that is unusual for this grape. The bouquet embraces elegant and tapered aromas with blackberry, wild cherry and crushed mineral. Those tones are lifted and bright with a hint of dried cherry or grape skin, but the wine offers plenty of Tuscan character. Production is 28,000 bottles.

A rich, fleshy red, with rusty, iron aromas complementing black cherry and blackberry flavors backed by substantial tannins. While this tightens up on the lingering finish, there is nevertheless a beam of concentrated fruit. A little earthy reduction blows off to reveal strawberry, cherry, iron, sanguine, earth and tobacco notes. Accents of Mediterranean scrub peek through as this red winds down in a grip of chalky tannins. Fresh and racy. Black cherry, dark plum, tar and wild herb flavors mark this dense red. The formidable structure puts the squeeze on the fruit for now, but the vibrant acidity lengthens the finish.
