The 1996 Joven, a barrel-fermented cuvee made from 70-year old Tempranillo vines, exhibits a dark purple color, followed by a beautifully expressive, sweet, floral, and black fruit-scented nose, with vague notions of mocha and chocolate. Copious quantities of rich berry fruit hit the palate in a succulent style, with an opulent texture as well as gorgeous purity and ripeness. This is a dazzling, deliciously fruity, medium-bodied wine to drink over the next 3-4 years. It can be served slightly chilled. Fortunately, 1,500 cases of this wine will be available when it is released in April. This is an amazing value from Spain.
