The organic 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Nerento gets a thumbs-up for quality and price. The wine is all Sangiovese, with fruit selected across a high-density 5.4-hectare vineyard site. Nerento is the estate's oldest plot with 22-year-old plants. Some 20,000 bottles were made. This shows a lean, polished texture with lively cherry and dried blueberry flavors. Those are framed by cola, spice and crushed stone.

Showing slightly evolved and aged aromas of dried fruit, cassis, licorice and smoke, this is a dark and sultry wine to pair with pork roast stuffed with stewed prunes. The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Nerento is a mid-weight wine with slightly dusty tannins and a dry finish. That finish is preceded by dark fruit, dried blackberry and spice; however, I recommend a near or medium-term drinking window as a result.
