The 2003 La Milla is 100% Monastrell from 60- to 80-year-old vines in Jumilla. The wine was aged for 8 months in used French and American oak and bottled unfiltered and unfined. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up exuberant aromas of Asian spice, soy, asphalt, blueberry and blackberry liqueur. On the palate it is super-ripe, supple-textured, and layered with no hard edges. The finish is long and pure. Again, I’d opt for a year or two in bottle to allow further evolution but the wine is irresistible now. It is also a killer value. mporter: Jose Pastor, Vinos and Gourmet Inc., Richmond, CA; tel. (510) 237-0077
