Christmann's iconic 2014 Konigsbacher Idig Riesling trocken GG is pure, intense, fresh, and displays chalk and lemon flavors on the concentrated, complex nose. Full-bodied and round on the palate, very elegant, intense and firmly structured, but also full of finesse and a certain lightness, this is great dry Riesling with a very long, complex finish. Again, like in 2013, a great character and among the finest dry German Rieslings of the vintage. Just to see how it feels, I blended the Idig with the K?nigsbacher, which comes from the lower part if the Idig, and the wine was still terrific in its purity and terroir expression -- even fresher and leaner.

Christmann's 2013 Konigsbacher Idig Riesling trocken GG is one of the dry German Riesling highlights of the vintage. Intense citrus colored it starts very aromatic on the nose displaying ripe and ultra ripe fruit aromas with powdered chalk, lime, and sweet herbal aromas. Full-bodied, with a juicy and salty palate, this is a very complex, elegant and persistently mineral Riesling of great intensity, length, and expression. This is a really great wine – impressive today but you’d better wait for it another 5 or 6 years.

Seems slightly dark in color—a burnished brass—but with mouthwatering notes of vegetable oil, ripe peach and citrus fruit. It’s concentrated to the point of a slight viscosity on the palate, lingering on the finish. A solid effort, if not completely up to expectations. ——J.C.(12/1/2011)—— 90
