The 2019 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Rotlay is highly refined and pure on the delicate and complex nose. Juicy-piquant and salty on the palate, this is a spicy-mineral, very elegant and sweet yet precise and electric terroir Auslese of great precision and piquancy. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

The 2018 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Rotlay is intense yet fine and coolish on the deep, fresh, aromatic, flinty and beautifully greenish nose. Picked at 118° to 120° Oechsle, this is a rich, mouth-filling, very charming, elegant, textured and finely salty terroir wine with lingering salinity and riper, more elegant acidity compared to the Schmitt, which comes from the second terrace behind the church. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

From a plot close to the Wehlener Sonnenuhr, the fuder-fermented 2017 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Rotlay is still discreet on the clear, fine and elegant nose. The palate is refined, slightly crunchy and salty, revealing great finesse, fine mineral grip and a persistently salty, racy-piquant finish. Tasted in March 2019.

From a very steep and stony vineyard close to the Mosel river, the 2015 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Rotlay had the highest infection of botrytis of the single-plot trio. The wine opens with a clear, perfectly ripe, intense and spicy mirabelle and grapefruit bouquet with delicate flinty slate aromas. Round, lush and sweet this is a generous and mouth-watering Auslese with a piquant acidity, a good mineral grip. The finish is intense, very long, pure and salty, full of grip and tension. This wine is enormously rich, but not fat and it just needs 15-20 years of bottle age to become a legend.

The 2014 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Rotlay offers a superbly clear and concentrated bouquet with tropical fruit aromas (mango, pineapples) and fine botrytis. Picked with 110° Oechsle, this is a sweet, piquant, highly elegant and refined Riesling with a lingering purity and salinity, as well as the repetition of the tropical fruit aromas of the nose. With great finesse and concentration, this is quite noble and expressive Riesling.
