The 2009 Pinot Noir Reserve Final Blend was made from 12 estate parcels. It provides greater aromatic complexity than the Estate cuvee with notes of fresh herbs which often appear in cooler McMinnville fruit. Here they are a background note to Asian spice, incense, black cherry, and black raspberry aromas. Savory and concentrated on the palate, this nicely proportioned Pinot is likely to drink well for another 6-8 years. Yamhill Valley Vineyards has a relatively lengthy history for Willamette Valley, having started in 1983 in McMinnville, the oldest winery in that AVA. The wines are produced entirely from estate-grown fruit and bottled in Stelvin screw caps. The winery uses little new oak even for the top cuvees, a position which has paid off in the 2009 vintage with its relatively delicate fruit.Tel. (503) 843-3100; www.yamhill.com
