The Barba 2015 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo I Vasari Old Vines shows dark, inky concentration, with sticky and rich black fruit. It's almost too much. It is ripe and dark while soft in the mouth, not sour. You'll need to pair this wine with something powerful, like a peppered-up chile con carne. The wine ages in barrique for 15 months. Some 30,000 bottles were made.

Pungent on the nose, featuring grilled herb and smoke notes that are more subtle on the palate, underscoring the crushed cherry, pomegranate, citrus peel and spice elements.
