This wine is significantly better than when tasted prior to bottling. An explosive, large-scaled effort with high levels of tannin and extract, this dark garnet-colored Barolo offers sweet licorice intermixed with leather, roasted herbs, black cherries, and sardines (I know that does not sound appealing, but believe me, it is). Rich and layered, it requires 2-3 years of cellaring to resolve the high tannin in the finish. There is a boatload of extract, so don't worry about the overall balance. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2020.
