Baron de Ley’s entry level 2007 Finca Monasterio is made up of 80% Tempranillo with the balance other unspecified varieties. It spent 6 months in large oak followed by 12 months in barrique. Deep cherry red, it gives up a pleasant nose of mineral, damp earth, violets, and black cherry. Savory, forward, and round in the mouth, it has plenty of spicy black fruit in an uncomplicated style.
