Baron de Ley’s entry level 2007 Finca Monasterio is made up of 80% Tempranillo with the balance other unspecified varieties. It spent 6 months in large oak followed by 12 months in barrique. Deep cherry red, it gives up a pleasant nose of mineral, damp earth, violets, and black cherry. Savory, forward, and round in the mouth, it has plenty of spicy black fruit in an uncomplicated style. Drink it over the next 6 years.
