The Faller 2006 Riesling Cuvee Saint Catherine - picked early even by the standards of this rushed harvest, yet already botrytis-inflected - smells of almond extract, pungent citrus oils, and a hint of white pepper, all of which translate into tactile impingement and bittersweet piquancy on an otherwise waxy-textured palate, with cyanic notes of apricot kernel adding to the sense of bitterness, yet enough primary juiciness of citrus and apricot to remain satisfying. I'd plan to enjoy it over the next 12-18 months. This year, Domaine Weinbach will receive its official certification as organic and biodynamic growers. The Fallers did well in the difficult 2006 vintage - especially with those Gewurztraminer harvested before botrytis gained the upper hand - and with good reason expressed elation over the vibrancy and refinement that characterizes most of 2007s.Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel.
