One of my favorite Vega Sindoa wines is this wine. Made from a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Tempranillo that spent 9 months in oak, this dark ruby-colored wine reveals purple nuances, and gorgeous toasty oak in a bouquet dominated by blackberry and cherry liqueur-like fruit notes. Lush, with Cabernet's cassis character dominating the wine on the palate, this medium-bodied, subtlely oaked example displays excellent purity, a nicely textured, plump feel, and a surprisingly long, rich, succulent finish. Although it tastes like it costs $25 or more, this Cabernet/Tempranillo blend is available for a song - $7.00. Over 7,000 cases were brought into the United States, so this is one of those rare gems where availability should not be a problem. Drink it over the next several years. This family-owned (eight separate families) winery in Navarra, in the foothills of the Pyrenees has become one of the leading sources of terrific wine values. The production from all estate-grown fruit is about 66,000 cases, of which half is sold in America. As I have reported in previous issues, these wines are must purchases for readers seeking to maximize their purchasing power.
