My favorite wine from this portfolio, the 2010 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Sergio Zingarelli shows a sense of depth and dimension that I have not previously seen in the wines of Rocca delle Macìe. This expression is more streamlined and tight with blackcurrant and grilled herb followed by graphite and crushed mineral notes. There’s a brooding fruit element of prune and black cherry that gives the wine a steady center of gravity. But those more ethereal tones add a greater sense of elegance and overall personality. The oak tannins are still sweet and savory at this young stage.
