The 2008 Chardonnay Jurosa is classy, elegant and refined from start to finish. Tropical varietal fruit is laced with minerals in a long, impeccable expression of Chardonnay. The Jurosa possesses lovely volume and textural richness while avoiding the excess heaviness that plagues so many Friulian Chardonnays. There is a centeredness and poise to the fruit I find particularly attractive in this vintage. This is a terrific effort from Alvaro Pecorari. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. Alvaro Pecorari is one of the leading young growers in Friuli. His wines are distinguished for their textural elegance and class. Readers should be aware that Lis Neris is owned by members of my wife’s extended family. I have always viewed education as an important component of wine criticism. An article on Friuli without these wines would have been incomplete and ultimately the consumer would have been poorer for their exclusion. Jurosa is a beautifully rich and creamy expression of Chardonnay that shows the yellow flower and drying mineral characteristics that are unique to the Friuli winemaking area in northeast Italy. Pair this wine with vegetable or fish risotto.——M.L.(3/1/2012)—— 89
