The 2005 Barbaresco Camp Gros Martinenga shares much of the purity and transparency of the Gaiun in this vintage, but with the greater structure and minerality of this part of the Martinenga hillside. Sweet roses, cherries, minerals, menthol and spices are some of the nuances that are found in this articulate, finely-tuned Camp Gros. Here, too, the tannins are polished and sensual throughout. The Camp Gros is made from a parcel next to Rabaja and also spends more time in large, neutral oak, both of which contribute to the wine’s firm, classic feel. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. This is a wonderful set of Barbarescos from Marchesi di Gresy. The wines show the estate’s trademark elegance but with perhaps a touch more fruit and a little less oak than in the past.
