The entry-level 2007 Vizcarra Roble has turned out well. Made from 100% Tempranillo (as are all the Vizcarra Ramos wines), it spent 6 months in French oak. Deep purple-colored, it has a fragrant nose of mineral, earth notes, and blackberry. On the palate it is tasty if a bit one-dimensional. Ripe and well balanced, it is a good value for a wine from Ribera del Duero. There was hail in Ribera del Duero in 2007 to the extent that Bodegas Vizcarra Ramos did not produce their two top cuvees.
