The 2013 Les Pujoles is a single-vineyard red produced from a 0.7-hectare plot that gives the wine its name. The vineyard was planted in 1988 with Ull de Llebre, the local strain of Tempranillo. As with the rest of the top reds, it fermented in 500-liter oak barrels with indigenous yeasts and matured in neutral barriques for one year. I was very impressed with the performance of this Tempranillo, showing varietal character, personality, balance and detail. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine-grained, slightly dusty tannins. It's harmonious and balanced. 2013 was a cool and wet year, and there were only 450 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2015.
