The 2007 Negroamaro Maime impresses for its rich, seductive fruit, but then falls short on the mid-palate. This is a silky, refined Negroamaro, but much of the varietal typicity seems to have been tamed, perhaps excessively so, as there isn’t as much character as I had hoped. Refined red fruits and flowers linger on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015.
In recent years the Antinori family has come on strong with their wines from Puglia. Tormaresca is actually two properties; the Bocca di Lupo in Castel del Monte and Masseria Maime in the Salento.
