Sweet red cherries, flowers, game, mint, licorice and tobacco are some of the notes that take shape as the 2010 Pinot Noir Ocean’s Ghost opens up in the glass. This is a fairly delicate, perfumed Pinot graced with lovely overall balance and tons of personality. The finish turns a bit gamy and fleeting as the intensity of the fruit trails off slightly. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. I very much like what I tasted from Bryan Babcock this year. In particular, a handful of the 2010 Pinots are flat-out gorgeous.Tel. The 2009 Pinot Noir Ocean's Ghost opens with a burst of sweet red berries, spices and French oak. This medium-bodied Pinot shows excellent purity in its fruit. Here the oak (50% new) seems a bit too much for the wine’s depth. Sweet, candied notes dominate the finish. I would choose to drink this sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2013. Vibrant, fresh, lively, with uplifted aromas and flavors of cherries, minerals, coffee, mushrooms, grilled meats and spices. A very rich wine, elaborately layered and multidimensional. Entirely off the estate, this polished young Pinot offers a complex melange of flavors, in a balanced structure.
