Sourced from -La Collina- and matured in very old barrels, the 2007 Viognier is comparatively anodyne on the nose but has a fine medium-bodied palate with good acidity and a cutting citrus edge with notes of grapefruit, bitter lemon and apricot towards the Rhone-like finish. Since acquiring their initial 6-hectare parcel of vines in Roys Hill in Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay in 1997, Bilancia (so-called as both proprietors Lorraine Leheny and Warren Gibson are both Librans), have quietly established themselves as one of the region's premium producers, with some exceptional Syrah and Pinot Gris.Importer: Vine Street Imports, Philadelphia, PA; tel. I prefer the 2006 Viognier with an entrancing nose of dried apricot, kerosene, citrus lemon and dried orange peel, the palate is buttery in texture with a ripe, aromatic, spicy finish.
