The 2018 Reserva, a blend of Tempranillo with 9% Graciano, still feels quite oaky after 15 months in French and American oak barrels, half of each. It has good ripeness for a cooler vintage, at 14.1% alcohol, and has a creamy mouthfeel with tannins and plenty of oak-related flavors in the finish. For fans of oaky modern Rioja. 142,217 bottles and 1,000 magnums. It was bottled in July 2020.

In the 2016 Reserva, I found very good freshness and balance and notes of red fruit that always point at more contained ripeness, and it also has a completely different oak profile, a lot subtler and more integrated than in previous vintages. This is a clean and aromatic modern Reserva with some fine tannins to be resolved by some more time in the bottle and/or with hearty food. It's a blend of 89% Tempranillo and 11% Graciano matured in barrel for 15 months. 148,217 bottles and 1,000 magnums produced. It was bottled in July 2018.

There are notes of smoky bacon and pork scratchings in the 2014 Reserva, a juicy, meaty and generously oaked red. The tannins tend to saturate your palate with a dry, dusty texture and a very dry finish. Some 200,000 bottles produced.

A 100% Tempranillo aged 14 months in American and French oak, the 2011 Reserva is an outstanding value showing beautiful black and red currant fruits, high-quality, unsmoked cigar tobacco, licorice and loamy soil undertones. Deep, medium to full-bodied, very pure, rich and concentrated, this is a gorgeous wine to drink over the next 3-4 years.

Bodegas Izadi’s owner, the Anton family, also owns the well-known Finca Villacreces in Ribera del Duero. Izadi is a relatively large estate with more than 375 acres in Rioja Alavesa. About 40% of the vineyards are over 70 years of age, which is quite impressive. The 2010 Reserva is another remarkable bargain from European Cellars. Made from 100% Tempranillo aged 14 months in American and French oak, it boasts a dense purple color as well as a big, sweet perfume of cassis, vanillin, graphite and forest floor. Full-bodied and ripe with terrific texture, purity and palate presence, this wine can be drunk now or cellared for 5-10 years, possibly longer.
