The 2009 Pinot Noir Boulder Block was made with 50% whole clusters. Mouth-filling and elegant at the same time, it is a stylish offering that is likely to blossom for another 1-2 years and drink well through 2019. Doug Tunnell has put in over 20 years of farming at Brick House in the Ribbon Ridge AVA. His vineyards are Demeter-certified biodynamic and he is a non-interventionist in the cellar. The 2008 Pinot Noir Boulder Block is 100% Pommard clone aged in 60% new oak (the most Tunnell has ever utilized for a wine). It gives up a seductive bouquet of rose petal, Asian spices, incense, cherry, and raspberry. Velvety-textured, it has intense red fruit flavors, loads of spice notes, and enough structure to evolve for 3-4 years. Seamless and silky in the finish, this lengthy effort is all about pleasure. The 2006 Pinot Noir Boulder Block is medium cherry red with enticing aromas of spice box, rose petal, earth notes, cassis, and black raspberry. Bordering on opulence, this layered, velvety effort has exceptional depth and length. Although it is hard to resist now, it should unfold gracefully over the next 4-6 years and provide pleasure through 2020. Vigneron Doug Tunnell is a relative veteran of the Willamette Valley scene, having planted his first parcel in 1992. His vineyards are certified biodynamic and all of the wines are sourced from estate fruit.
