Made only in stainless steel and packaged in a clear glass bottle to reinforce its brilliant appearance, the Campo al Mare 2021 Bolgheri Vermentino excels at freshness and simplicity. Varietal tones of grapefruit, crisp honeydew melon and fresh-cut grass emerge steadily from the bouquet. With some 400,000 bottles produced, this should prove to be an easy-to-locate summer white for poolside parties and beach lunches.

The Campo al Mare 2019 Bolgheri Vermentino is packaged in a bright and luminous bottle that is inviting and cheerful. This is a simple but pleasantly fragrant expression that delivers citrus, honeydew melon, dried sage and crushed oyster shell. The mouthfeel is slender and fresh, making this a classic and easygoing white from the Tuscan Coast for a simple spaghetti and clams. Some 40,000 bottles were produced.

The 2016 Bolgheri Vermentino was slightly reduced when I tasted it. Following a few swift swirls of the glass, the bouquet here offers easy aromas of citrus, white peach and crushed mineral or flint. The wine is lean and fresh in terms of mouthfeel. Pair this Tuscan white with bruschetta topped with tomato and basil.

The 2015 Bolgheri Vermentino is a tonic and refreshing Tuscan white with citrus, white flower and wild sage. After temperature-controlled fermentation, the wine completes one month of sur lie aging and then rests in stainless steel for four months before bottling. Pretty mineral notes and salty marine aromas remind you of how close the vineyards are to the shimmering Mediterranean. The results are fresh and informal.

The 2014 Bolgheri Vermentino is a lean and refreshing wine with peach and citrus delivered up front. Distant mineral tones appear at the back. The wine is a little leaner and less expressive overall due to the difficult vintage conditions.
