The 2009 Tinto “Dona Ermelinda” is mostly Castelao, the signature red grape of the region, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Touriga Nacional, all aged for 6 months in French oak. Sweet, tasty and sharp on the finish, this big production wine has lots of flavor and should make a nice house pour. There is not a lot of mid-palate concentration, but there is some structure. The winery indicates it can hold for up to 7 years, but I suspect it will be at its best now and in the next year or two. Drink now-2014. The winery is also part of the Wine and Winemakers by Saven group, making some wines under “Azul Portugal.”Importer: Vino Cava, Wayne, PA; tel.
